What is “Green Cookware”?

There have been a number of cookware reviews in popular consumer magazines and on websites about “green cookware”. What is interesting is that many of their top picks have been pans either made in China or Europe.

So what really does make a product “green”?

Shouldn’t we consider the carbon footprint of how products are manufactured as well as how they perform? In the case of Cuisinart’s new GreenGourmet, are their products green if they are made in China, shipped to an anodizing facility, then shipped to a coating service, shipped to Cuisinart’s warehouse, then shipped to the distributor and shipped then to the retailer who possibly ships it to the customer? How green is that?
